Reisverslag 3 Sardinië en Sicilië - Blog 3 Sardinia and Sicily

Cagliari (Sardinië) vrijdag 16 mei

Na Tunis was het een nachtje varen naar Sardinië.
In 2020 hadden we voor de maand mei een reis van twee weken naar Sardinië geboekt. Helaas stak Covid daar een stokje voor en moesten we de reis annuleren. Gelukkig kregen we ons geld terug.

Ons schip "Ambience" legde vrijdag aan in Cagliari. Het is de hoofdstad van Sardinië en een heel oude stad.
We wilden vanuit Cagliari de resten van de oude Romeinse stad in Nora bezoeken. Nora ligt op een schiereiland, niet ver van Cagliari. Er zijn o.a. overblijfselen van badhuizen, winkels, huizen, wegen en van een theater en een boerderij.
Er was veel te zien en het was prachtig weer, niet te heet want er woei een lekker zeebriesje.
Na het bezoek aan de opgravingen, vervoerde de bus ons via een panoramische route naar de top van de Monte Urpino in Cagliari voor een fotostop. Onderweg zagen massa's flamingo's die verblijven in de zoutmeren vlakbij Cagliari. Helaas waren ze te ver weg om mooi op de foto te kunnen zetten.
Die avond verlieten we Sardinië voor weer een zeedag met schilderen, wandelen, ukelele spelen (Jan) en schrijven (Mieke).

Syracuse (Sicilië) zondag 18 mei

We kwam op zondag aan in Sicilië.
In januari waren we naar de Vakantiebeurs geweest. Op de Siciliaanse stand vertelden ze ons dat we boften. Precies in de periode dat ons schip aanmeerde in Syracuse, was er een bloemenfestival in Noto, vlak bij Syracuse. De straatstenen worden dan bekleed met bloemen. We konden het festival bereiken met de hop-on-hop-off-bus zeiden ze.
Echter, op deze mooi zonnige zondag ((28° C) kregen we te horen, dat de bus niet zo ver ging, dus geen bloemenfestival voor ons. We besloten toch maar de route met de hop-on-hop-off-bus te doen, om de stad te bezichtigen. We konden dan beslissen waar we 's middags terug naar toe wilden.
Het was een mooie rit en 's middags genoten we van de drukte in de smalle straatjes. Op de grotere straten reden de scootertjes af en aan. Veel Sicilianen genoten van een drankje of zaten lekker te smullen in de vele restaurants.
Het was leuk om te zien hoe iedereen zich amuseerde en genoot van de vrije zondag. We gingen met een fijn gevoel terug naar het schip en we sloten Sicilië voor altijd in ons hart.
Die avond  zette het schip koers  naar Griekenland.

Cagliari (Sardinia) Friday 16th May

We left Tunis and we reached Sardinia after one night sailing.
In 2020 we had booked a holiday in Sardinia and we intended to stay there for 2 weeks. In this period Covid had reached Europe and we had to cancel our holiday. Fortunately we got our money back.

Our ship Ambience berthed in Cagliari, the capital of Sardinia. It is a very old city.
We liked to visit some archeological remains in Nora.
Nora is an ancient pre-Roman and Roman town on a peninsula not far from Cagliari. There are amongst others remains of a theatre, bathhouses, shops, houses of civilians, a farm and old Roman roads. There was a lot to see and the weather was nice. It was not too hot because there was a  the light sea breeze.
After the visit to the excavations took the bus us via a scenic route to the top of Monte Urpino in Cagliari for a photo stop. On our way we saw a lot flamingos in the salt lakes near the city. However they were too far to get them on a picture.
That evening we left Sardinia for another sea day with painting, walking, playing ukulele (Jan) and writing (Mieke).

Syracuse (Sicily) Sunday 18th May

Sunday we arrived in Syracuse in Sicily. It was a nice sunny day.
In January we had visited a holiday fair in the Netherlands. People from Sardinia had told us about a nice flower festival in Noto, not far from Syracuse. During our visit to  Syracuse, the streets should be covered with flowers. The Sardinians told us that Noto was reachable by bus and that there was a hop-on-hop-off service.
However, the salesman of the tickets of the hop-on-hop-off bus told us that the bus did not go to Noto. It was to far. So we decided to take the bus anyway, to view the town and to decide what to do in the afternoon.
It was a nice drive and in that afternoon we enjoyed of the Sicilians in the busy narrow streets. There were also a lot of scooters on the (bigger) streets. Other Sicilians visited the shops and the restaurants. It was nice to see how the people were amusing themselves and enjoyed their free day.
We loved the island and we went back too the ship with a nice feeling.
That evening the ship set course for Greece.
